A note from our founder…

Welcome to Creativity Spark! 

With YouTube step by step guides, printed painting templates, and Legos with instructions, creativity has gotten increasingly scripted. We can search for the product we want, then follow the processes to get there. 

This results in children doing art for the product rather than the process. These step by step guides have created unrealistic standards for child artwork, making mistakes seem like failure rather than a natural part of learning. 

This is where Creativity Spark comes in. Creativity Spark is a project I started to expand creative opportunities that do not prioritize instruction-based learning. My goal is to distribute boxes that establish foundational motor skills yet spark creativity without overbearing instruction. The goal is for these motor skills to fill a “creative toolbox” that can allow them to create their own projects unscripted. 

That being said, some structure has been implemented in order to provide more meaningful guidance. Each box will include a series of photos that serve as instructions. This framework will work to provide low pressure instruction and allow kids to think through why each step works. With different patterns but still the same concept, these instructions also won’t allow students to directly copy the instructions before them.

However, we also don’t want this to become a stressful activity at home. Instead, we’ve made it adaptable so that if the pictures get frustrating, you can access instructions and video guides on this website.
